The inspiration for this piece is taken from the walled Victorian Kitchen Garden found at Lissadell House, County Sligo, Ireland.
Looking over Drumcliff Bay, Lissadell lies on the south shore of the Magherow peninsula taking its name from the Irish placename, Lios an Doill Uí Dálaigh. The large Neo-classical Greek style house with Victorian walled garden boasts its own micro climate making it suitable to grow a variety of fruit, vegetables and herbs. Built in the 1830’s, the house and gardens are open in the summer months to visitors.
This new oval shaped basket is woven in the shape of a platter of colourful salad vegetables. Scattered around the edge are peapods, cabbages, corn, asparagus and cherry tomatoes. Hidden throughout are ladybirds, a butterfly and a bumble bee.
