Product Details

The Metropolitan Museum’s opulent Japanese Kimono Frame is based on a design for a kimono in Unsodo’s Ancient Japanese Design, a copy of which is now in the Museum’s Department of Drawings and Prints.

Founded in 1891 and still in existence today, Unsodo is one of Kyoto’s most prestigious publishing houses, specializing in fine woodblock prints.

From the 1890s through the 1930s, Unsodo was involved in printing high quality pattern books for various crafts including lacquer and textiles.

Frame is crafted with a hand applied black enamel and a gold overlay.

Piece displays a 3"x3" print or photo. Overall, the frame measures 5¼''W x 5¼''H.
